Philosophy Degrees

BA in Philosophy

Thirty semester hours (10 three-hour philosophy courses) in philosophy. Twelve hours (four three-hour courses) must be above PHIL 2999.

Forty-two semester hours of General Education courses (required of all ECU students).

Twelve semester hours (four courses) of a foreign language (through level 1004).

Minor and electives to complete a total of 120 semester hours for graduation.

Minor in Philosophy

Twenty-four semester hours in philosophy. A minimum of nine semester hours must be above PHIL 2999.

Double Major in Philosophy.

If you meet the requirements for a Minor in Philosophy, with two more courses you can earn a Double Major. (You must complete four courses above PHIL 2999.) If your primary major is a BS, you do not have to take a foreign language to earn a Double Major in Philosophy. Courses in philosophy taken to satisfy the General Education Humanities Requirements also can be used to satisfy the requirements for a Double Major in Philosophy.

Philosophy Honors Program

In the junior and senior year, the student enrolls in philosophy honors sections. Honors students take a comprehensive exam at the end of the junior year and write an honors thesis during the first term of the senior year. Contact the philosophy department for further details.
