Congratulations! 2008-2009 Undergraduate Scholarship Awards Winners

Sara Veale: L and T Gomes Award ($500)
The scholarship is in honor of Douglas L. Gomes parents Colonel Louise A. and Mrs. Trudy Gomes. Douglas is an alumnus of the Department of Political Science. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support to Political Science undergraduate students who have demonstrated leadership characteristics and/or high academic performance in the classroom. The award will be used to help defray educational costs or cost of attending conferences, seminars or other events related to the area of the Political Science major.
Matthew Buckner: Carlton Troutman Scholarship ($250)
Established in 1991 in honor of Mr. Herbert R. Carlton and Dr. William F. Troutman, Jr. Mr. Carlton was an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the department. Dr. William F. Troutman, Jr. served the department as Professor and Chair. Awarded to an outstanding declared major in the fall of their Junior year.
Chris Federici: Tinsley E. Yarbrough Scholarship ($2,000)
Established by Mary Frances Morris in 2002 in honor of Distinguished Professor Tinsley E. Yarbrough. The scholarship supports an outstanding senior, who is enrolled full-time in the Department of Political Science. The scholarship is for Academic merit.
William Atwell: Hans Indorf Scholarship ($500)
Established by Robert V. and Victoria T. Lucas in Fall 2004. The purpose is to provide scholarship support to deserving full-time undergraduate students who are majoring in political science at East Carolina University and who have demonstrated interest in international relations or comparative politics.
Kendra Parks: Mitchell-Hunt Scholarship ($200)
Established Fall 1996. Mitchell L. Hunt, an ECU political science alumnus, has funded this scholarship award. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior undergraduate student who is enrolled full time in the Department of Political Science at ECU. It is based on academic merit. The student must also be a finalist in the Political Science Writing Competition.
David Zeher: University Book Exchange Scholarship ($250)
The scholarship is funded through contributions made by the University Book Exchange, usually one each semester. Recipients are selected according to guidelines established by the Honors and Scholarships committee. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Political Science.
Paul Hawkins: Senator John East Scholarship ($2,500)
