DR. DENNIS MCCUNNEY serves as director of the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement in the division of student affairs and teaching assistant professor of leadership studies at East Carolina University. His professional and research interests include leadership development, faculty culture, critical service-learning, campus–community partnerships, and democratic engagement. He received his Ph.D. from Morgan State University’s School of Education and Urban Studies. He has presented his research in various arenas, including the IUPUI Assessment Institute, NASPA Leadership Educators Institute, the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement annual meeting, and the Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement conference. Recent publications include articles in the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement, Metropolitan Universities Journal and Jesuit Higher Education, as well as a book chapter in Service-Learning to Advance Social Justice in a Time of Radical Inequality.
