Internship Programs

Presidential Management Internship (PMI)
The PMI is a two-year program of paid work in the federal government. The PMl is designed to attract men and women of exceptional management potential who will receive special training in planning and managing public programs and policies to build excellence in the federal service. The program emphasizes a variety of career experiences, including the opportunity to serve in several different federal agencies. Highly qualified students are encouraged to apply to this program as they near the end of the MPA program.

NC Governor's Public Management Fellowship Program
This fellowship is a two-year program of paid work in North Carolina government, with the possibility of conversion to permanent status after the two-year period is completed. The program id designed to attract exceptional MPA graduates who are interested in working in a wide variety of state government fields. The MPA program at East Carolina University can nominate up to three graduating students for this program. We have had a great deal of success in placing students in the fellowship program. In the 1999-2000 academic year, four ECU MPA graduates are working for the NC Commissioner of Insurance’s office, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, the NC Department of Environment and National Resources, and the NC Community College System.
