Model United Nations

East Carolina University's Department of Political Science provides three avenues through which students may pursue their interest in international relations: our academic programs, the East Carolina International Relations Organization (ECIRO) and the Eastern Carolina High School Model United Nations.

Academically, the Department offers two courses that are directly related to the UN, POLS 3293 International Organizations and POLS 3013 Decision Making in the United Nations. Students in 3293 learn about the goals, structure and processes of the UN and other international organizations. In 3013, participants will have an opportunity to engage in simulations of UN councils and committees and to oversee the Eastern Carolina High School Model UN. POLS 3013 is offered in the Fall semester every year. In Spring 2008, one section of Introduction to International Relations POLS 2020 will offer a Model UN component for to continue interested UN simulations and participation.

See the Political Science Department home page for other offerings in international relations and comparative politics, and the International Studies home page for information about the minor in international studies.

The East Carolina University Model United Nations Club (ECUMUN), travels to other universities (Columbia University, NY, and UNC Charlotte, NC) to participate in collegiate international relations conferences, sponsors presentations on international issues, and also holds social events.
