on Capitol Hill as legislative correspondent for Congressman Mike McIntyre.
Brian
Von Meyerhoeffer (BA, 1999) is attending the University of Baltimore
School of Law.
David
Sturm (BS, 1999) is a graduate student at the American University,
where he is an editorial assistant for the journal Congress and the
Presidency.
Joan
White (BA, 1999) is a loan officer for a firm in Winston Salem.
James
Douglas Bean (BS, 1999) is a price analyst in the Harris Teeter
Corporate Office in Matthews.
Cynthia
E. Degiacinto (BS, 1996) received her MPA from the University
of Oklahoma. She has also been awarded a 1998 Presidential Management
Internship appointment with the Department of Defense. She will be a
program analyst for the Pacific Region Quality of Life Programs. In
November 1996, she married Clayton Degiacinto, and they now reside in
Haleiwa, Hawaii.
Damon
P. Johnson (BS, 1993) is a medical sales representative for
BFI Healthcare. On April 30, 1999, he married Melanie D. Crain of Kings
Mountain. The faculty and staff of the Department of Political Science
wish them the best.

Tom
Wheaton (MPA, 1998) has been promoted to the rank of commander
in the Medical Service of the US Navy. Tom tells us that the MPA degree
was an integral part of his promotion.
Lee
Padrick, (MPA, 1992) works for the N.C. Division of Community
Assistance as a community development planner.
Patrice
Alexander (MPA, 1986) has been promoted to employee relations
manager at Champion International Corporation, Roanoke Rapids Mill.
She is currently serving as chair of Halifax-Warren Smart Start Partnership
for Children and as treasurer of Coalition 2001, an advocacy group for
public sector mental health services.
Four
MPA graduates are currently employed through the North Carolina Governors
Management Fellowship Program. This program appoints MPA graduates to
two-year fellowships working for the state. Melissa Byers (MPA,
1998) is in her second year in the Insurance Commissioner's Office.
Clyde Higgs (MPA, 1999) is executive assistant to Martin Lancaster,
president of the N.C. Community College system. Matt Oathout (MPA,
1999) is working in the Department of Health and Human Services. Kelly
Rudd (MPA, 1998) is working in the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources. Clyde, Matt, and Kelly are all in their first year
in the fellowship program.
