Industrial and Organizational Psychology

»Program News

The Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology concentration at East Carolina University trains students to apply scientific solutions to the workplace. The I/O concentration is a 45-semester hour Master's program that provides students with the tools to work in industrial and organizational settings. The department currently has six full-time I/O psychology faculty members and three affiliated faculty members.

An essential part of the program is an internship that typically occurs during the summer between a student's first and second year. This internship provides students with an opportunity to apply skills learned through course work and to acquire new skills in an organizational setting. The internship may require students to relocate.

An additional component of the program is the completion of a master's thesis. The master's thesis is a professional research paper that serves as an example of the student's research skills and ability to write an organized research report. The student will defend the completed thesis at an oral examination conducted by the thesis committee.

The Occupational Health Psychology concentration within the Health Psychology Doctoral Program will begin accepting applications this fall.
