Students are admitted to the MA/CAS program with the understanding that they will pursue both degrees simultaneously, as the MA degree is not granted unless the requirements for the CAS degree have also been met. Admission to the program is contingent upon meeting all requirements of the ECU Graduate School and being recommended by the faculty of the School Psychology graduate program. All prospective graduate students should have a common core of undergraduate psychology courses including introductory psychology, statistics, and research methods. Students who have an MA in school psychology may be considered for admission to the CAS program without completing the MA at ECU. Applicants with a masters degree in a related area will have to apply for and complete the entire MA/CAS program. The sequential scheduling of courses and practica makes part-time enrollment difficult. Moreover, students miss out on the the support of an intact group of students as they move through the program. Therefore, the program admits students for full-time Fall Semester enrollment only.
GRE scores, grade point average, references and other information are used in making admission decisions. Students accepted in the program typically have a combined GRE verbal and quantitative score of 1000 or higher and a cumulative GPA above 3.0. An important part of our admissions consideration is your Statement of Personal Goals. From this we are able to judge whether your interests are compatible with our program, and we can view a sample your writing skill. Please be sure to put a reasonable amount of effort into constructing your Statement of Personal Goals. Tell us why you want to be a school psychologist, what your career goals are, what personal characteristics and life experiences might make you a good psychologist, and why you want to come to ECU.
