August 15, 2011

Thank you for your interest in doctoral studies in Health Psychology at East Carolina University. Our program began in 2007 with a training mission to produce state-of-the-art scientist practitioners in pediatric school psychology. The Department of Psychology at East Carolina University offers a Ph.D. program in health psychology with a concentraion pediatric school psychology. Our program takes a health psychology approach to school psychology to prepare graduates to both effectively conduct scholarly research and to engage in a range of psychological services, from primary to tertiary, with both traditional school psychology populations (e.g. children and adolescents with learning and behavior concerns) and low incidence populations (e.g. children with sickle cell disease, chronic medical conditions, developmental delays, or obesity). Students are trained in both research and practice, with practicum experiences in both core school psychology and health psychology settings. For example, students have engaged in practicum experiences in schools, school based health centers and medical clinics such as pediatrics.

We believe the training program at East Carolina University is among the most innovative in the country with the emphasis on pediatric school psychology. We hope you agree and will consider East Carolina for your future studies. Tomorrow Starts Here.

Go Pirates!

Respectfully,
