Instructions for Applying to the Graduate I-O Program at ECU
1. Have official GRE (Verbal, Quantitative,
and Analytic) test scores sent to
2. Retrieve and print all necessary forms.
2a. Go to http://www.ecu.edu/cs-cas/psyc/Applications.cfm Scroll down, and click on the link titled "download self-managed degree program application packet." An Adobe Acrobat file will appear. Print all materials included in the Adobe Acrobat file.
2b. Go to http://www.ecu.edu/psyc/grad/io/bisht.doc . Save the file on a disk, use Microsoft Word to open the file, and print the 2-page form.
3. Complete application.
3a. Locate the 2-page document titled "Application for Admission to Graduate Degree and Certificate Programs."
3b. Complete items 1-26.
o Use the following information to complete item #10:

§ Degree: MA
§ Program Code: 042
3c. Sign and date the application.
4. Statement of Legal Residence
4a.
Locate the 2-page document titled "Statement of Legal Residence to
Determine Eligibility for the In-State Tuition Rate (
4b. If you wish to declare

5. Request transcripts.
5a. Locate the form titled "Request for transcript."
5b. Complete 1 request for transcript for each college/university where you previously completed 7 or more hours of course work.
5c. Mail the form(s) to the institution(s) you attended.
5d. You will later receive these transcripts in the mail.
6. Request references.
6a.
Locate the 2-page form titled "Reference Form for Applicants to the

6b. Make copies of this form.
6c. Fill out the top portion of each copy.
6d. Gather 3 blank envelopes.
6e. Address the envelopes to yourself.
6f. In small print, write the letter-writer’s last name and "ECU" in the lower left-hand corner of the envelopes.
6g. Stamp the envelopes.
6h. Give 1 reference form and 1 envelope to each letter writer.
6i. You will later receive these letters in the mail.
7. Prepare personal statement.
7a.
Locate the 1-page form titled "Statement of Purpose Form for Applicants to

7c. Type a personal statement on this form.
8. Prepare application payment.
8a.
If paying by check, print your name, as it appears on
the application form, in the lower left-hand corner. Make the $45 check payable
to
8b. If paying by credit card, locate and complete the form titled "Credit Card Payment Authorization." Use a scissors to cut this form off of the larger sheet of paper on which it is printed.
9. Prepare receipt of application notice.
9a. Locate the small form titled "Receipt of Application Notice."
9b. Use a scissors to cut this form off of the larger sheet of paper on which it is printed.
9c. Write your name in the lower right-hand corner of the form.
9d. Gather 1 blank envelope.
9e. Address the envelope to yourself.
9f. Stamp the envelope.
9g. Paper clip the Receipt of Application Notice to the outside of the envelope.
10. Prepare supplemental application form.
10a.
Locate the 2-page form titled "Supplemental Application; Psychology
Department;
10b. Complete the form, sign and date it.
10c. If you wish to be considered for an assistantship, type a brief letter stating your need for financial assistance on a separate sheet of paper.
11. Gather and mail materials.
11a. Gather 1 envelope, 9X12-inch
11b. Address the envelope to:

o Letter stating need for financial assistance (only if you wish to be considered for an assistantship)
11d. Place the envelope in the mail.
