Optimal treatment for cancer requires not only the equipment to allow for state of the art therapy, but also extensive clinical expertise and staffing to accomplish this.  Ultra precise radiation requires a team of highly trained physicists and dosimetrists to ensure that these treatments are planned and carried out correctly.  Most radiation centers have few such individuals on staff.  Because ECU is a medical school department, we have an experienced team of such individuals working full time to ensure the highest quality possible.
In addition, we have on staff 4 full-time physicians dedicated to state of the art treatment.  Each has gone through extensive training and post-graduate courses to maintain knowledge of cutting edge therapy.  In addition to this additional training, ECU Radiation Oncology participates in a wide variety of national and international clinical trails, which keeps us up to date on what advances are occurring in cancer treatment.
Based on this knowledge and expertise, we feel comfortable offering advice to patients as to how to achieve the best outcomes possible.  As part of the Brody School of Medicine, our staff and faculty are required to continue to attend courses to stay current in the best treatments available.  Our physicians and staff often teach these courses as well.  As part of our daily routine each patient's diagnosis and treatment is reviewed by our entire staff to ensure a multi-disciplinary and optimal approach to therapy.  With cancer, as well as with other diseases, the initial treatment is extremely important.  That is why we spend all the time and effort required to create the very best treatment possible for each individual.  You can schedule an expert second opinion yourself or through your physician by calling (252) 744-2900.
