Recognizing that the diagnosis and treatment of cancer can create many new feelings, concerns and questions, our team offers individualized support to complement the physical plan of care for both the patient and family/caregivers. A variety of program and services are offered in conjunction with an individualized plan of care including ongoing educational and support programs designed to assist with dealing with the changes and stress that often accompany cancer.
Each patient receives a psychosocial assessment with a variety of support services identified at that time. Our Patient Care Coordinator works closely with staff throughout the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center and the patient's local community to coordinate care to meet the identified needs. Individual and group counseling/support; locating financial resources; advocacy regarding insurance coverage; legal issues inclusive of disability and advanced directives; transportation and/or local lodging during treatment; and referrals to community services are just a few of the areas addressed to enhance the well being the patient.
The plan of care reflects treating the whole person rather than the illness as an isolated event. The multidisciplinary approach is designed to enhance the quality of life for each patient.
