September 1998 Roanoke Colonization Conference Plans Underway

Preliminary plans are being completed for a September 10-11, 1998, academic conference on Roanoke colonization-related subjects. Sponsored by East Carolina University’s Roanoke Colonies Research Office, the conference will be held in Manteo, North Carolina, on Roanoke Island. The same weekend, but not affiliated with the conference, will be the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival.

Presentations on archaeology, geography, history, literature, and all other fields with a Roanoke colonization connection will be considered for the conference. Proposals for entire panels of three to four presenters will be considered as well.

A call for papers will be issued within the next few weeks. Anyone already on the mailing list for the Roanoke Colonies Research Newsletter will receive the conference materials. If you are aware of anyone who might be interested in the conference but who may not be on the mailing list, please send his or her name to the Roanoke Colonies Research Office.
