Roanoke Colonies Research Newsletter
Volume 2.1 (November 1994)

Work Begun on Roanoke Colonization Bibliography Project

Work has begun on a bibliography of materials connected with Roanoke Island colonization and related topics. The first step will be a checklist of materials, with the intent of turning the checklist into an annotated bibliography within
the next few years.

Being done under the direction of Tom Shields of the Roanoke Colonies Research Office, the checklist will include materials from as wide a variety of fields as possible. Published versions of primary sources as well as scholarly secondary sources in the fields of history, archaeology, biology, literature, geography, geology, anthropology, and any other applicable field will be put on the checklist. Also works of popular literature—children’s books, historical novels, and so forth—will be listed, as will book reviews of works concerning the Roanoke colonies.

In order to assist with such a major undertaking, the compilers of the checklist ask that readers of the Roanoke Colonies Research Newsletter send along citations to any works they may be aware of, from the familiar to the obscure. Citations for newspaper clippings, books and articles that might be missed during typical keyword searches, and other more easily missed references will be especially appreciated. Please send all citations to Tom Shields at the Roanoke Colonies Research Office.
