Teachers of Quality Academy

A key success factor for the magnitude of curricular change we face is the presence of committed faculty who understand, practice, and can teach future generations of health professions students how to create optimal care environments utilizing effective care teams.

Teachers of Quality Academy

The new "Teachers of Quality Academy" (TQA) is designed to develop in our faculty the skills necessary to practice and teach new curriculum in patient safety, quality improvement, and systems-based practice in an environment of interprofessional, team-based care. This cohort of master educators that will undergo advanced training in these areas, develop projects to apply these skills across the health system, train the students and other caregivers in these concepts. As a result of this training, faculty in the Quality Academy will earn a Credential in Medical Education from the ECU College of Education.

In addition to advanced training in PS/QI, the TQA faculty will also participate in training on adult education principles, curriculum development, teaching modalities and assessment methods, in order to ensure effective planning, delivery and evaluation for the newly designed curriculum.

At the end of TQA training, faculty will be able to:

  • Build a culture of quality and safety
  • Set audacious goals for your quality efforts
  • Develop appropriate metrics and use quality data for improvement
  • Develop and implement inpatient and ambulatory-focused improvement projects
  • Build your team’s skills in recognizing and eliminating defects
  • Manage adverse events for transformation
  • Use existing structures to leverage quality efforts
  • Link improvement science and academic advancement, and publish your improvement work
  • Assess their environment’s readiness for the ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER)
