RENCI at ECU staff attended the Hurricane Floyd Remembered Conference sponsored by the National Weather Service as a part of Flood Awareness Week on March 18. Speakers included professionals from emergency management, NOAA, the American Red Cross, Sea Grant, and others.

The conference began with a remembrance of Hurricane Floyd, how it formed, and the impact of the flooding. The next speakers discussed the lessons learned since Floyd and described new response measures, such as increased rescue team training and expanded sheltering facilities. Concluding speakers revealed new research and technology capable of more accurate modeling and prediction of future storms:
