The East Carolina University (ECU) Center for Health Disparities is an interdisciplinary center devoted to reducing health disparities in Pitt County and the greater eastern North Carolina region through research, education and training, and collaborative community projects. The Center’s faculty, staff, and community members work to reduce disparities in cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease among the rural, ethnic-minority, and low socioeconomic populations of eastern NC.

Hope Landrine, Ph.D.

Hope Landrine, PhD (Professor of Public Health and Psychology) is the Director of the Center. She received her PhD in Clinical psychology from the University of Rhode Island, postdoctoral training in Social Psychology  at Stanford University, and postdoctoral training in Cancer Prevention and Control as a National Cancer Institute Fellow in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California Medical School. Prior to joining ECU, she was the Director of Multicultural Research at the American Cancer Society. Her research focuses on neighborhood and sociocultural factors in cancer disparities, and on community-based strategies for reducing health disparities.
