Framework for 21st Century Learning

ECU Tomorrow's focus on Education for a New Century commits us to ensuring that our students leave here prepared to compete globally.

The Framework for 21st Century Learning provides us with a unified collection of knowledge; skills and expertise students should master to succeed in work and life. This framework, which was developed by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, presents a collective vision for 21st century learning that can be used to strengthen American education. The framework includes: core subjects (English, mathematics, foreign languages etc.), 21st century content (global awareness, health and wellness literacy, civil literacy, and financial, economic, business, and entrepreneurial literacy), learning and thinking skills, information and communications technology literacy, and life skills.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is a leading advocacy organization focused on infusing 21st century skills into education. The organization brings together the business community, education leaders, and policymakers to define a powerful vision for 21st century education to ensure every child's success as citizens and workers in the 21st century. The nation's first Center for 21st Century Skills was launched by North Carolina Governor Mike Easley in 2005. The Centre is a public-private partnership that works actively to create new curricula, new assessments, and new ways to align classroom teaching and learning outcomes with 21st century workforce readiness skills.

Our engagement enables ECU to bring together current innovative reform efforts to develop meaningful curricula and assessments that reflect the knowledge and skills necessary for our students' to compete globally in the 21st century.
