The 1962 Society Scholarship & Awards Banquet will serve as annual recognition event for current student and alumni achievement and as a tribute to Laura M. Leary Elliott and other early black students, graduates, faculty and staff of East Carolina University. The 1962 Society Scholarship & Awards Banquet awards scholarships to current student pirates, alumni and staff that are successfully continuing the legacy of trailblazers and pioneers of the University.
Laura Leary Elliott Outstanding Black Alumni
The Laura Leary Elliott Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes five outstanding African-American alumni who have been stellar leaders within the University community and/or within their local community.
Ledonia Wright Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award
The Ledonia Wright Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award honors a faculty or staff member, past or present, who has made outstanding contributions to East Carolina University.
Laura Leary Elliott Memorial Scholarship Award
The Laura Leary Elliott Memorial Scholarship is given to a students pursuing careers in fields that are historically underrepresented by minority populations. This may include fields related to science, mathematics, engineering, technology, or any other field that applicants can demonstrate as being historically underrepresented by minority students. The scholarship recipient(s) must be enrolled full-time at East Carolina University, have a minimum grade point average of a 3.0 and must contribute to the diversity of the institution.
