History
Sigma Xi Chapter at ECU was established on May 2, 1974 by a group of scientists from DuPont (Kinston) and ECU. The charter membership comprised 26 associate members and 73 full members. Of these members, many have since retired, but most accomplished recognizable activities, e.g., dean of the graduate school, department chair, president of a college, an invertebrate species named in their honor, and of course recognition for their teaching, research, and service. The tradition of excellence continues today with the present membership.
