Sharon Pruitt teaches African art, African American art, and Ancient art.
Her research publications appear in books about contemporary Nigerian art, traditional African art, and 19
th and 20
th century African American art and culture.
She focuses on artists who emphatically utilize cultural history and environments to define an individual or national identity.
In 1995, she acquired the first African Art Collection, the Lankton Collection, which was donated to the School of Art and Design.
