The Art History Guild is one of several guilds of the Visual Arts Forum, which has formally been in existence since 1976 to represent degree programs in the School of Art and Design. Our present guild, which was established in 1994, includes majors and minors in Art History and other students interested in Art History. We are committed to generating ways to have our students actively involved in art history and its real-life applications. A quick inventory of the Guild's topics would include the follwing: relevant handbooks, standard texts, journals, typical art history publishing houses, foundations, the discipline’s research libraries, image collections, potential graduate institutions. Members are also involved in a variety of formal and informal academic relations including conferences, symposia, guest lecturers, important upcoming exhibitions and art events. During the last academic year 2008-2009, the Art History Guild organized screening of art movies, participated in Youth Arts Festival in Greenville, and attended the College Art Association in Los Angeles, California, which was a great opportunity for students to visit museums, art galleries, talk to artists, and explore the city.
The guild is open to any student at ECU! You are welcome to attend the guild’s meetings, propose future projects, field trips, and more.
