After successfully completing the required art foundation courses during the freshman year, students prepare for entry into the Illustration concentration in their sophomore year taking Art 2230: Illustration Survey in the fall or spring along with Art 2200: Communication Arts Survey in the fall and Art 2210: Concepts in Communication Arts in the spring. Work from these 3 classes can build much of the portfolio along with strong work from drawing, painting or printmaking classes. A minimum of eleven well presented pieces of work are required for an illustration entrance portfolio. Sketchbooks are encouraged but optional. Strong drawing ability, work ethic and willingness to explore concepts and ideas are expected. Illustration portfolio reviews occur at the end of both Fall and Spring semesters.
