The mission of the textile guild is to provide an opportunity for students with an interest in the fiber arts to come together and share knowledge, opinions and suggestions with those who have a common appreciation for this media.
Any student with an interest in the textile arts may become a member of the guild, however, all students who concentrate in textiles need to join the guild in order to take advantage of the unique opportunities offered within.
Students can join at any time during the fall and spring semesters and guild membership fees are $6 for one semester or $10 for the school year.
The guild meets at least once a month and more frequently when warranted.
Guild members have access to the following:
- Guild members are involved in the selection of all guest artists who are experts in their field. These artists come to ECU and lecture on their art, conduct workshops and have a chance to speak with the students and critique work.
- If funding allows, student trips can be partially supported with guild monies.
- Each year, the annual Christmas sale in the Gray Gallery is a major event and all guild members will have the opportunity to submit their work for sale. A 10% commission is taken to support guild endeavors.
- The guild provides leadership skills as students fill the positions of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and VAF representative.
The guild provides the student with a voice and a chance to influence what happens in the textile area. The Textile Guild has worked together with other guilds within the School of Art and Design on conferences, seminars and the Youth Arts Festival. These experiences give the students opportunities to explore new mediums, meet artists from all areas of art and build lasting and important relationships.
