East Carolina University will present The Fourth Annual Youth Arts Festival on Saturday, April 4th 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be held on the "mall" area in the center of campus. In case of rain, the festival will be held in the Leo W. Jenkins Fines Arts Building on Fifth Street.
The festival will bring over 100 visual and performing artists to campus who will share their creative talents with the children of our community. Varied and talented musical , dance and theatrical groups will also be featured at the festival.
Children will have the opportunity to visit with artists demonstrating activities such as wheel thrown ceramics, traditional watercolor painting, weaving, felting, paper-making, printmaking, portraiture and a myriad of other visual art media. Featured visual artists will come from surrounding states, North Carolina, Greenville, and from the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University.
Children will also have the opportunity to create their own artwork with the help of Art Education and other students from ECU, as well as many professional artists. There will be lots of other fun and exciting interactive activities for children of all ages during the day.
April 4th will be a day full of "fun and adventure." All children, families and individuals interested in the arts are welcome. This activity coincides with the Youth Arts Month sponsored by the North Carolina Art Education Association.
ECU and Emerge Gallery have joined together as co-sponsors to host this event. This event is being supported this year with generous grants from Target Corporationthe North Carolina Arts Council, the ECU Art Enthusiasts and Pepsi. Artists will be visiting many local schools, especially third grade classes from January through March. Sponsors at ECU include the Department of Recreation and Wellness, The College of Fine Arts and Communication, The School of Music, the School of Theater and Dance, the Office of Intercultural Student Affairs/ Ledonia Wright Center, and the Division of Student Life.
