East Carolina University will present The Seventh Annual Youth Arts Festival on Saturday, April 2nd 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be held on the "mall" area in the center of campus. In case of rain, the festival will be held in the Leo W. Jenkins Fine Arts Building on Fifth Street.
The festival will bring over 150 visual and performing artists to campus who will share their creative talents with the children of our community. Varied and talented musical, dance and theatrical groups will also be featured at the festival. Some of our premier groups will be:
The Paperhand Puppet Intervention will be on our stage at 2:00 pm with their Giant puppets. http://www.paperhand.org/

Charleston artist, Arianne King Comer honors her heritage through indigo batik. "I know that I am an indigo child,” says textile artist Arianne King Comer. “And I know that my art is my journey.” http://www.ariannekingcomer.com/
Children will have the opportunity to visit with artists and create their own artworks using media
such as wheel thrown ceramics, traditional watercolor painting, weaving, felting, paper-making, printmaking, portraiture and a myriad of art activities. Featured visual artists will come from surrounding states, North Carolina, Greenville, and from the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University.
There will be lots of other fun and exciting interactive activities for children of all ages during the day.
April 2
nd will be a day full of "fun and adventure." All children, families and individuals interested in the arts are welcome. This activity coincides with the Youth Arts Month sponsored by the North Carolina Art Education Association.
ECU School of Art and Design is the sponsor of this event. This event is being supported this year with generous grants from the ECU School of Art and Design, ECU Office of the Provost, ECU School of Fine Arts and Communication, North Carolina Arts Council, Target Corporation, the Friends of the School of Art and Design, Sponsors at ECU include the Department of Recreation and Wellness, The School of Music, the School of Theater and Dance, the Student Activities Board, Joyner Library, and the Ledonia Wright Center. A poster contest was held in local schools in February and March.
All events are free and open to the public.
