ECU's Regulation Regarding SSN and PII
The ECU Policy on Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) was initially approved on September 12, 2007 and updated to a Regulation on July 20, 2012.
This regulation states that SSN and PII information may only be collected, used and/or disclosed by ECU and its employees and agents as permitted by applicable law and university policy and only in furtherance of legitimate university business.
In order to implement and ensure compliance with legal requirements governing SSNs and PII, ECU established the Identity Theft Protection Committee (ITPC) to oversee ECU's compliance with this regulation in regard to the collection, segregation, disclosure and security of SSNs and PII and the development of related policies/regulations.
The ITPC is also responsible for approving the collection and use of SSNs and PII.
For additional information on the SSN and PII regulation, please see information in this website. Questions concerning the requirements of this regulation should be directed to the Identity Theft Protection Committee (ITPC) at ITPC@ecu.edu.
