Residence Hall Coordinators

OVERVIEW

The Residence Hall Coordinator is a Master's Degree required, twelve month, live-in position responsible for the overall administrative and programmatic aspects of a residence hall housing 275 – 500 students. The Residence Hall Coordinator fosters the development of a living – learning environment in the residence hall in order to promote student and community development. This position reports directly to the Director of Residence Life for Campus Living.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPERVISION/TRAINING/DEVELOPMENT

•  Hire, train and supervise Resident Advisors.

•  Plan and implement team-building activities to develop the staff.

•  Evaluate and recognize staff performance.

•  Develop hall goals and strategies to attain these.

•  Assist in Campus Living staff recruitment.

•  Teach an accredited Resident Advisor or First Year Student course.

•  Organize and facilitate weekly hall staff meetings.

•  Provide leadership training for Hall Government and other student groups.

•  Advise the Hall Government executive board and body and support their activities.

•  Participate in professional staff development including: bi-weekly in-services, professional organizations, coursework, and work with other departments.

•  Chair or serve on a departmental team.

•  Function as a contributing member of Coordinator team.

ADMINISTRATION/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

•  Coordinate administrative hall functions, including openings and closings.

•  Promote safety and security through development of RA duty schedule and facility walk-throughs.

•  Monitor hall budget.

•  Attend weekly professional staff meetings.

•  Assist with facility maintenance request process.

•  Prepare and submit reports, proposals, and other correspondence to Campus Living.

•  Participate in Coordinator campus area duty coverage and assist with crisis intervention.

•  Assume responsibility for departmental and divisional issues, programming needs and advisory duties as assigned.

•  Maintain office hours for staff and student contact.

PROGRAMMING/EDUCATION/DEVELOPMENT

•  Utilize student development programming to facilitate individual and community growth within the living-learning environment.

•  Motivate residents' involvement with each other and hall activities.

•  Implement educational diversity programming to increase awareness and promote appreciation of different cultures.

•  Involve faculty in the residence halls via programming.

•  Facilitate academic initiatives to assist all students, especially First Year Students, with their transition and study skills in order to support them as well as the academic mission of ECU.

STUDENT CONTACT

•  Provide support and counsel to individual students on an on-going basis.

•  Respond to requests and inquiries from students in a timely manner.

•  Promote student responsibility for behavior, which is consistent with the mission of ECU.

•  Serve as hearing officer for student judicial cases and administer educational sanctions.

•  Be approachable and available to interact with students on a daily basis, i.e.. in the dining hall, during hall tours, and at programs.

•  Provide appropriate referrals to the Counseling Center and other campus/community resources .

REMUNERATION

Salary begins at $33,920 for twelve months (starting July 12, 2011 through May 31, 2012); package includes health insurance, furnished apartment, meal plan while in session and $750.00 professional development funds.
