Lifestyle Options

Single-Sex Living
Form a strong camaraderie and closer friendships with members of your own gender. We offer two women only halls that allow students to develop activities focused on the interests, issues, and concerns of that gender.

Coed Living
Get real—live in an environment most like the “real world.” Male and female students live in either separate adjacent wings of the same floor or on alternate floors of the same building.

Tobacco-Free Living
Breathe easier—tobacco-free living options in most of our halls permit you to live in an environment where the use of tobacco products is prohibited. In tobacco-free halls, you also must agree to prohibit your visitors from using tobacco products.
What if you don’t want to live in a tobacco-free hall, but you want a roommate who does not use tobacco? The assignment office matches roommates based on the information provided on the preference form, so complete the form accurately for the best possible match.

Academic-Year Residence Halls

All residence halls are open during scheduled fall and spring breaks, residence halls only close during the winter break.

Note: The academic year does not include summer housing. If you wish to live on campus while attending summer school, you must apply for summer housing. Only a few residence halls are available for housing during summer sessions. Note, too, that the room charge for this option is slightly higher.

Application Based Programs

Some of our living options require a special application to be a part of them.

FOCUS Community Service
The program has been designed for students who have a commitment to serving the community. Staff members along with residents on the floors will plan numerous community service events for themselves as well as the entire hall. Residents will have the opportunity to learn and grow from these service experiences in the Greenville community and beyond. The only requirement for living on one of the Community Service focus floors is to have a dedication to service.

First-Year Experience Hall (FX Program)

First-Year Experience ensures a great start to a college career at ECU and provides academic support and guidance. Students in First-Year Experience live together, having access to programs that help them choose a major, manage time, sharpen study and test-taking skills, manage stress, and ensure their safety. With limited space, First-Year Experience fills quickly, and assignments are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If interested in participating, please note the First-Year Experience question on your Campus Living Contract, and information and an application will be sent to you.

Jarvis Leadership Program
Take the lead—Jarvis Hall is a leadership hall designed for residents interested in serving the university community and upholding the ideals and traditions of ECU. By special invitation only for new students.
