Due to the record number of new students who are planning to attend ECU this academic year 2008-2009, we have reached full occupancy in our residence halls. To assist students on the Campus Living waiting list for a space in the residence halls, East Carolina University has contracted with two apartment complexes to provide student housing.
You will be notified on or around August 8, 2008 with your specific room assignment, but you do have housing for the fall semester. Some students may still receive an on campus assignment, based on additional cancellations this week. Students are being housed under their existing contract with the university, and we expect to be able to offer these students a space in the residence halls at some point during the fall semester. Students will be required to move to their new assignment on campus from their apartment assignment when offered. We would like to remind you that the Campus Living Contract is binding, with significant penalties for cancellation.
Campus Living Contract: http://www.ecu.edu/studentlife/campusliving/policy.cfm These two complexes are about 4 miles from the main campus, and have excellent service via the ECU Student Transit System. The Bellamy is a newly opened complex is located south of the University, and North Campus Crossing is located next the new ECU Intramural Complex and is north east of the University.
Rooms will be mostly 4 students to an apartment, with students in a private bedroom and bath.
The rooms in the apartments have full size beds. Apartments have kitchens and all appliances, including washers and dryers. Both complexes have a range of modern safety systems, and have been inspected by the university for general safety issues. The apartments contracted by the University will include all utilities, including cable and Internet service.
Campus Living will also have student Resident Adviser staff living on site, providing guidance and programs. We will also have a professional staff person living on site for emergencies, in addition to the staffing provided by the apartment complex.

Waiting List Information (July Information)
Due to the record number of new students who are planning to attend ECU this academic year 2008-2009, we have reached full occupancy in our residence halls. Therefore, students for whom we received requests for housing on-campus after May 20, 2008 are on a waiting list.
Campus Living has an established deadline of May 1, 2008 for guaranteed housing, and we currently have assigned housing for students that applied before this date and that applied during most of May. Students that applied after this period are on a wait list and we are working to provide assignments for all that have currently applied for housing by looking at alternatives near campus.
Campus Living plans to provide information on those alternatives to students towards the end of July. This temporary housing will be on the ECU student transit route, be staffed by university housing staff, and meet the university's safety and security standards. The off campus housing will be temporary and students will be required to move into on-campus housing options as spaces become available.
Students on the waiting list have two options:
1. Students Can Remain on the Waiting List
Students who remain on the waiting list will be billed for the housing rate for College Hill Suites, since we currently plan for any off campus temporary housing to be apartment style. The housing fees will be adjusted when they move into their permanent room assignment on campus.
Campus Living will continue to make on campus room assignments based on the student’s contract date as we have cancellations. Students will get their room assignment and waiting list updates via e-mail.
2. Students Can Cancel Their Contract with ECU Campus Living and Live Off Campus
Students currently on the waiting list who wish to cancel can do so in writing with the student’s signature (Our fax number is 252-328-4995, sorry no e-mails.) ECU will refund both the student's application fee and advance room fee ($200) and any current housing charges that have been paid by the student.
ECU has a web site of apartment complexes that have partnered with us and have met specific standards. Please use this resource to look at options around Greenville. Most of these complexes offer buses via ECU transit to campus and house mostly students. http://www.ecu.edu/offcampushousing/
Students who cancel their ECU housing contract and contract with off campus housing, will be signing a lease with a non-university entity. Most of these leases are 12 months leases. Please contact Off Campus and Community Living at 252-328-2847 for additional information.
