Counseling

The Center for Counseling and Student Development is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).

Appointments

To make an appointment, call the Center at 328-6661 weekdays during regular business hours, between 8am - 5pm. Every effort is made to see students for individual appointments in a timely manner. However, there may be as much as a 2-3 week wait for individual appointments. Students experiencing an emergency situation should make this known, so that they may be seen as soon as possible.

What can I expect from counseling? Individual Counseling is provided for the student who wishes to discuss particular issues relative to her/his personal life. Sessions usually last about forty-five minutes and may be scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The number of sessions varies depending on the issues involved. It has been our experience that most, but not all, students' problems can be addressed in four to eight sessions. If a student is in need of long-term psychotherapy, referral information can be provided.

Counseling is a process of exploring issues, learning new ways of coping, and increasing satisfaction with life. The counselor can assist you in clarifying goals and finding solutions to problems through careful listening, guiding self-exploration, suggesting new perspectives for consideration, and providing new information. Counseling is not telling you what to do, how to feel, or who to be. Your initial interview with a counselor will help you identify which resources and programs may best meet your needs.

Emergeny Walk-In Service
(Emergency Walk In Hours only exist during the fall and spring semesters. Visits during summer sessions are by appointment ONLY.)

Our Emergency Walk-In Service operates on a first-come-first-served basis, and is offered to those students who feel they cannot wait for a regular appointment. Sessions offered through our Walk-In Service are relatively brief, usually less than 30 minutes.

Current hours for the Walk-In Service are:

Monday 9:00 - 4:00
Tuesday 10:00 - 4:00
Wednesday 9:00 - 4:00
Thursday 9:00 - 4:00
Friday 9:00 - 4:00
