A Guide to Helping and Reporting Individuals Exhibiting Concerning Behavior

Our students at East Carolina, like all university students, face many stressors during their college tenure.  Additionally, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus may also be experiencing stressors in their lives that ultimately impact their behavior negatively while in the workplace or while part of our campus community Fellow colleagues and peers - students, faculty and staff - are in a good position to identify individuals on campus who, as a result of these stressors, are exhibiting signs of difficulty coping.  As such, offering to assist distressed individuals, connecting them to appropriate campus resources, and reporting concerning behavior to professionals on campus who can provide further assistance can be a crucial first step in helping the individual improve and ensuring the safety of everyone on our campus. Below are examples of the different types of concerning behavior an individual may exhibit, recommended steps for you to take when you observe such behavior, as well as resources on campus to refer these individuals as appropriate.
