Over-the-Counter Medications
The ECU Student Health Service pharmacy carries a wide variety of over-the-counter medications and products at significantly reduced costs. These items may be purchased at the pharmacy department window. The pharmacy accepts payment by cash, check, Mastercard/Visa, or ECU students may charge the payment to their cashier's account.
Pain Relievers:
- Aspirin: Relieves mild to moderate pain, inflammation and tenderness in joints.
- Acetaminophen: Relieves mild to moderate pain. Reduces fever.
- Ibuprofen: Relieves mild to moderate pain, particularly for menstrual cramps. Decreases inflammation. Helps reduce fever.
- Naproxen: Relieves mild to moderate pain. Anti-inflammatory. Reduces fever. Duration of actions is 8-12 hours.
Cold & Flu:
- Antihistimines: Relieves itching, sneezing, teary eyes, and runny nose. Relieves itching due to poison ivy, insect bites, and dermatitis.
- Decongestants: Helps to widen blocked nasal passages and sinuses reducing nasal congestion, sinus pressure, head and earaches due to sinus pressure.
- Cough Expectorants: Reduces the thickness of mucous in order to help remove congestion from the chest. Can help prevent a cold or flu from getting worse to the point of bronchitis.
- Cough Suppressant: Designed to help control coughing, particularly a dry, hacking, persistent cough.
Topicals:
- Steroidal Creams: Relieves inflamed, irritated skin due to rashes, poison ivy, insect bites
- Antifungal Creams: Relieves itching and redness of irritated skin due to fungal infection such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ring worm, vaginal yeast infections
Nausea & Diarrhea:
- Antiacids: Neutralize excessive stomach acid due to upset stomach from foods, viruses, emotions
- H-2 blockers/Proton Pump Inhibitors: Stops production of excessive stomach acid
- Antidiarrheals: Reduces mild diarrhea symptoms. Can reduce bowel cramps due to diarrhea.

- Latex male condoms
- Polyurethane male condoms
- Spermicides
- Pregnancy tests
