Do I need an appointment or urgent care?

  1. From the list below determine your illness and what level of care you require (urgent Care, Same Day, Appointment)
  2. Follow the instructions regarding your level of care (Urgent Care, Same Day, Appointment) and how to see a Student Health Provider.

If one of the below problems does not apply to you or if you feel that your conditions is in need of Immediate Medical Attention please check in at the Student Health front desk or seek medical attention.

Urgent Care:

  • Acute, disabling injury or pain
  • Illness with temperature greater than 102
  • Lacerations or acute penetrating wounds
  • Fainting episode
  • Acute chest pain
  • Acute emotional problems
  • Acute asthma attacks or breathing difficulty
  • Contagious illness (Measles, Chicken Pox)
  • Acute bleeding
  • Seizures or acute head injuries
  • Burns
  • Sexual Assault/Rape
  • Poisoning

Same Day:

  • Acute infection (ear, vaginal, urinary tract, eye, or throat)
  • Injuries occuring within the past 2-7 days
  • Acute skin problems (hives, poison ivy)
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections with symptoms
  • Possible reaction to medication
  • Emergency Contraception (Morning After Pill)
  • Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea

Appointment:

  • Physicals
  • Pap smears
  • Prescription renewals
  • Lab work
  • Follow-up form previous visit
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections without symptoms
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Gynecological problems
  • Injuries occuring more than 7 days ago
  • Skin problems
  • Long-term medical problems
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Acute abdominal pain

What does "acute" mean? Requiring immediate attention; having rapid onset

What does "traige" mean? Screening of sick, wounded, or injured persons to determine their priority of care

Urgent Care: Patients requiring Urgent Care should check in at the Student Health front desk and wait to be triaged by a nurse. Urgent Care wait times can take up to 2 hours depending upon patient load and severity of patient problems. Please remember Urgent Care is for patients in need of prompt medical attention.

Same Day: Patients requiring Same Day Care should check in at the Student Health front desk and wait to be triaged by a nurse. The nurse will determine when the patient should be seen and arrange a return appointment time for that patient based upon the severity of patient problems.

Appointment: Patients in need of an Appointment do not need to check in at the Student Health front desk but can see the Student Health appointment secretary to the right of the front desk or patients may call (252) 328-6841
