ECU Employee Information


ECU Student Health Service will provide limited health care services by appointment during regular appointment hours for ECU faculty and staff.  Service is not provided on evenings, weekends or holidays.  Care may include a provider visit for diagnosis and assessment or a nurse visit for such services as immunizations, allergy vaccines, and dressing changes. An office visit fee will be charged for each visit. Supplies or procedures will be charged at the same rate as for the students. Payment is expected at the time of service) and can be made by cash, check, or credit card.

The Student Health Service does not follow workman's compensation cases; work place illness/injuries can be initially evaluated at the Student Health Service then referred to Prospective Health at the BSOM.

Eligibility

  • Individual seeking care must be a permanent full or part-time employee of ECU.
  • Employee must present a valid ECU One Card, in order to receive care.

 

Charges and Fees

Level IV -  $80.00 Level IV -  $40.00

Increased fee levels depend upon complexity of case causing increase in time, counseling, and/or coordinating care.
  • X-Ray - $35.00 per x-ray.
  • Pharmacy – Medication prices vary per product, not all products are available for ECU Employees.  Please call for exact price (252) 328-6793 and identify yourself as an ECU Employee.  See the Pharmacy ECU Employee page for further information.
  • Additional fees commonly associated with nurse visits are:
    • Allergy vaccines – Nurse visit charge plus $3.00 per shot
    • Immunizations – Nurse visit charge plus cost if vaccine is purchased at the Student Health Service
    • Dressing changes – Nurse visit charge plus dressing supply fee
    • Requests for lab work or x-ray – Nurse visit charge plus cost of lab procedure

      Note: The following screening labs will be offered for a nurse visit fee plus the cost of the lab work; Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Lipid Panel, and Blood Glucose. Other lab requests must be accompanied by an order from the patient’s outside physician, or will require a Student Health Service appointment.
  • Student Health Service will file primary insurance (BCBS State Health Plan) for the employee, upon request. The Student Health Service will not file secondary insurance.

Student Health Service will file Medicare but not Medicaid.

Services not Provided

  • Counseling/psychotherapy
  • Chronic disease management and prescription refills for chronic diseases (Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, etc.)
  • Pediatric care
  • Spousal care
  • Underlying health problems secondary to Urgent Care treatment
  • Gynecological/obstetric services

Employees are not required to utilize the Student Health Service for any portion of their health care.

Appointments: For non-urgent medical matters requiring medical attention please call (252) 328-6841 to schedule an appointment. You may also schedule an appointment in person at the clinic.

Employees with these complaints are generally seen by appointment only.

  • Acute infections (ear, urinary tract, eye, throat)
  • Acute skin problems (poison ivy, hives)
  • Possible drug reactions
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Lab work
  • Upper respiratory infections

Urgent Care: Urgent Care clinic is open during regular weekday operating hours for ECU faculty and staff. The clinic is for patients who require immediate care for acute illnesses or injuries but who are unable to make an appointment. Wait times can vary and may be up to 1 hour; acutely ill students will be seen before faculty.

Employees with these complaints will first be evaluated by a nurse.

  • Acute, disabling injury or pain
  • Illness with temperature 102°
  • Lacerations or acute wounds
  • Chest Pain
  • Acute asthma attacks or breathing difficulty
  • Contagious illness
  • Acute bleeding
  • Seizures or head injuries
  • Burns
  • Poisoning
  • Acute abdominal pain

Nurse Visits: Visits not requiring a provider visit may be scheduled by making an appointment with a member of our nursing staff. Please call for an appointment (252) 328-6841. You may also walk-in through our Urgent Care clinic for medical attention requiring more immediate care.

  • Immunizations

  • Suture removal
  • Allergy injections
  • BP check
  • Routine lab orders

Pharmacy: Prescription and Over the Counter medications services are also available for ECU faculty and staff. Please call for questions (252) 328-6793 or visit our Pharmacy Department page.

  • We can fill prescriptions from Student Health Service providers as well as those written by outside providers for medications carried by the Pharmacy Department. Please see our Prescription Medication List for currently available products
  • Over the counter medications and/or supplies are also available. Please see our Over the Counter list for currently available products
  • Some products are available only for students due to manufacturer constraints. Please call for an exact price for your medication and identify yourself as an ECU employee.
