Filling Prescriptions

Students and ECU employees do not have to fill their prescriptions at the Student Health Service Pharmacy Department however, our service often offers a cheaper source for prescription medication. We accept prescriptions from Student Health Service providers as well as prescriptions from outside medical offices. Due to budget limitations and space we cannot offer every medication needed by patients. We can also transfer your current prescription with refills from another pharmacy to our pharmacy department. Please call for questions (252) 328-6793.

Insurance

Student Health Service accepts some insurance plans currently. Due to insurance and copay with insurance, lower prices at the Student Health Service may or may not be a benefit to you. If you have insurance you will need to know your prescription copay for brand and generic in order to compare prices with our service. Please call for prices and questions (252) 328-6793. For more information on insurance and ECU Student Insurance questions please visit our Insurance Information page. ECU employees please visit our ECU Employee Information page for more facts concerning the NC Teachers and State Employees Prescription Insurance plan and its use at the Student Health Service Pharmacy Department.

Non ECU Student Health Medical Office Prescriptions

We gladly fill prescriptions from any valid outside medical provider office, just bring us the prescription. Due to budget limitations, and space we cannot offer every medication needed by patients.

Transfers to or from an Outside Pharmacy

We can transfer your active prescription with refills on it from an outside pharmacy (i.e. Walmart, Eckerds, CVS, etc&). Please call us in advance and give us your name, birth date, medication name, and the pharmacy's phone number where we need to call. It is also helpful to have your prescription number for that medication, we will then transfer that prescription over to the Student Health Service Pharmacy. We can also transfer any active prescriptions with refills on them to an outside pharmacy, just call us and give us the name and phone number of the pharmacy and which medication prescription you wish to have sent.

Prescriptions Not Picked-Up/Returned to Stock

After two weeks, any filled prescriptions that you have ordered that are not picked-up are returned to stock and the prescription will be credited to your prescription account. You will not loose the refill or filling of the medication if you do not pick it up before the two weeks time.

Returns or Credits of Unused Medications

Federal, and State regulations prevent us from reissuing any medication previously dispensed to a patient, therefore any medication picked-up by a patient cannot be returned to the pharmacy for credit.

Waiting Times

We normally fill prescriptions on a first-come, first served basis. Exceptions to this procedure are refills which may sometimes be filled more quickly than a new prescription due to processing time. Prescriptions for patients in the facility who are in observation beds and need medication quickly may be serviced as first priority. Delays in processing a prescription due to insurance questions, problems with the prescription that may need clarification from a provider, etc... may delay prescription filling.
