Returns are processed through Customer Service at the Dowdy Student Stores in the Wright Building. An original cash register receipt is required on all returns, refunds, and exchanges. Merchandise returns apply per the following categories:
Apparel, Gifts, School Supplies, and Art Supplies:
Apparel and gift items purchased at the Dowdy Student Stores for which there is no receipt (if you received the merchandise as a gift for example) may only be exchanged for merchandise of equal value. The value is determined as the current selling price at the time of the exchange. Merchandise such as apparel, gifts, school supplies, and art supplies may be returned or exchanged within 60 days of purchase date provided that it is returned in its original condition, is unopened, and the packaging is undamaged.
Textbooks:
A valid ECU 1 Card is required for any refunds or exchanges. The condition of the book must be the same as when purchased. Price labels should be left on all books until it is determined that no refund or exchange will be needed. All materials included in packages, such as access codes, software, etc, must be returned as a complete set for a refund or exchange. Returns or exchanges can only be made during specified time periods, which are the following:
- First 10 class days of the fall or spring semester
(First 30 class days if class is dropped with drop slip provided)
- First 5 class days of a summer session
(First 10 class days if class is dropped with drop slip provided)
- Within 3 business days of purchase
(Providing it does not fall within the no refund/exchange period)
No refund/exchange periods are between the time beginning 3 weeks prior to the first day of final exams through the last day of final exams. In addition, no refunds or exchanges are given between the time beginning 10 days prior to and through the day of exams. See the textbooks department web site regarding return dates for the current semester.
Course Packs:
No refunds or exchanges will be permitted on course packs, including lab manuals and study guides.
Trade Books and Reference Books:
Trade books and reference books may be returned or exchanged within 60 days of purchase date provided that it is returned in its original condition, is unopened, and the packaging is undamaged.
Computer Software, Hardware, and Related Accessories:
Returns/exchanges on software on software and computer accessories will be accepted within 30 days from purchase date in original condition, unopened, and undamaged. Computer hardware is not eligible for return or exchange. Special order items, study aids, test preparations, review books, Cliff Notes, and computer books are non-refundable unless defective and then may be exchanged only with store receipt.
Medical Bookstore:
Returns for the Medical Bookstore at the ECU Brody School of Medicine can be seen on its web site at www.studentstores.ecu.edu/MedicalBookstore.
When refunds are authorized, refund will be given in original form of tender. Decisions made by the Dowdy Student Stores regarding returns, refunds, and exchanges are final.
