Achieving sustainability is unlikely without a system of measurement. Such a measurement allows you to determine your business's distance from a "threshold of sustainability," the point at which resources are not used faster than natural systems can replace them, and waste is not produced faster than natural systems can accommodate. There are a number of variables that can be used to measure your proximity to sustainability, but currently the most important of these is carbon emissions. This calculator will give you a close approximation of your business’s carbon emissions and identify the major sources of those emissions. This information will allow you to create a carbon reduction plan to target those areas. Refer to the Business Resources section for tips on formulating your reduction plan.
