Welcome to the East Carolina University (ECU) Telemedicine Center located within the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC. Our telemedicine program has been in continuous operation since its inception in 1992, making it one of the longest running clinical telemedicine operations in the nation. We provide clinical telemedicine services, conduct telehealth research, educate and train health care providers and the public about telemedicine and telehealth applications.
We have found that telehealth services not only improves access to specialty medical care, but also to personal healthcare and education. Telehealth improves patient compliance, reduces readmissions or frequent returns and increases the continuity of care, especially in rural or underserved areas. In addition, rural health professionals keep connected to their professional colleagues through their telemedicine collaboration and participation in continuing education via the network.
Telemedicine is a critical part of ECU's effort to improve the health of the region's citizens and prepare the next generation of health professionals with contemporary skills and knowledge in 'personal' technologies. We envision that telemedicine technologies, systems, principles and practices will enable the provision of health care where it's needed, when it's needed.
