Our Fan SupportA message from Terry Holland
For the 2010 football season, East Carolina was second in the nation for average attendance among current BCS non-AQ teams. East of the Mississippi River, ECU had the highest average attendance in this category and also ranked 44th in average attendance among all FBS teams.
ECU attendance figures led Conference USA in average attendance by more than 10,000 fans per game in 2010. East Carolina is the only Conference USA team to be ranked among the top 50 teams in the nation for average home football game attendance.
East Carolina fans travel to support their team. ECU had the highest ticket sales of all Conference USA teams that traveled to a bowl game in 2010. The Pirates sold their entire allotment of tickets for the 2010 Military Bowl.
Sales of licensed merchandise is a good indicator of fan support. East Carolina University licensed merchandise is the top-seller of all non-AQ schools east of the Mississippi River. In Conference USA, ECU consistently holds the top position for merchandise sales. Nationwide, ECU sales rank in the top five among non-AQ schools, and consistently rank in the top 55 of all universities. In comparison, ECU would have ranked seventh in the Big East and ninth in the ACC in 2010.
More than 17,800 alumni, students, faculty, and staff are members of the Pirate Club. In 2010, these fans contributed over $6 million in annual fund support to the continued growth of ECU Pirate athletics. East Carolina was one of only two institutions to earn a 2010 Award of Sustained Excellence from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for its success in fundraising.
East Carolina University has been the fastest-growing university in North Carolina for six years. The university draws most of its students from the major population centers of Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, but also attracts a significant number of students from across the state and all along the East Coast.
