The goal of the Office of University Scholarships is to provide students and their families with information on both internal and external scholarship opportunities. Scholarships are gifts of money that do not require repayment.
Scholarships usually recognize special achievements in academics, talent, and leadership. Some scholarships may also require that students demonstrate financial need. Financial need will be determined by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA applications for each academic year can be filed starting October 1.
Scholarships can come from a variety of sources. Scholarships may be awarded by the Office of University Scholarships or by the individual colleges and departments on our campus. There are scholarship opportunities for incoming freshmen, transfer students, and students currently enrolled at the University.
East Carolina University has many scholarships that have been made available through the generous donations of alumni and friends of the University. Scholarship eligibility, criteria, and amounts may change at any time without prior notice.
ECU also encourages students to search for private scholarships not affiliated with the University. Start your search early and be aware of deadlines. It does not cost anything to apply for a scholarship beyond a little bit of your time and the rewards can be significant. Small scholarships add up so don't make the mistake of ignoring those opportunities.
Search for scholarships from a variety of sources. Ask at your parents' places of employment. Ask your high school guidance counselors. Check with your local civic, religious, and community organizations and community foundations. Search for scholarships with companies that offer employment to graduates of your intended program of study.
We are proud to award students that are interested in continuing their education at East Carolina University. We hope that all students will grow and succeed in both personal and academic endeavors while at our University.
