The Media Board is composed mostly of students representing the major student organizations on campus. The board in its monthly meetings oversees the general operation of the student media, sets terms and policies, mediates disputes and hires the media heads.
The Student Media Board also provides oversight and direction to the student newspaper (The East Carolinian), the student radio station (WZMB), a quarterly student minority magazine (Expressions) and an annual literary magazine (Rebel). The board also authorizes duplication and distribution of a video yearbook produced by students in the Department of Communication.
The student (voting) members of the board include:
• President of the Student Government Association (SGA)*
• President of the Interfraternity Council (IFC)*
• President of the Panhellenic Council*
• President of the National Panhellenic Council (NPHC)*
• President of Allied Blacks for Leadership and Equality (ABLE)*
• President of the Student Union*
• President of Residence Hall Association (RHA)*
• An elected RHA representative
• An elected Day Student representative
* or a qualified appointed representative
The non-student (voting) members of the board include:
• A representative of the administration
• A representative of the faculty
The Student Media Adviser serves as a ex-officio, non-voting member of the board.
