Writing Across the Curriculum
University Writing Center

In 1992, East Carolina University made a major commitment to student literacy by approving a Program in Writing Across the Curriculum. In 2000, WAC and the University Writing Center came under the jurisdiction of Academic Affairs in a consolidated program called the University Writing Program. The goal of the University Writing Program is to provide instruction in the kinds of writing students can expect to do academically and professionally and to provide support for that instruction.

To that end, over 400 Writing Intensive (WI) courses have been approved since the WAC program's inception. And the University Writing Center has several sites around campus, including the main location in Joyner Library and sites in other buildings on campus where WI courses are taught.

The University Writing Program, a program supported by the Office of Academic Programs in the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, is housed in Joyner Library, room 1015.

Effective December 1, 2012, the University Writing Program's administrative offices will be located in Bate 2026 while the new Writing Program/Writing Center space is constructed in Joyner Library. The phone numbers and emails addresses below, however, remain the same.

The University Writing Center will occupy Joyner Study Rooms 1804 & 1805 during construction.
