Is CCSD right for me?
East Carolina University’s Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) invites all enrolled students to acquaint themselves with the services we offer. All students are eligible for an initial assessment with one of our counselors. Upon gathering information about what brings the student to CCSD, the counselor will make treatment recommendations in collaboration with each student. Service recommendations are based on each individual’s needs and may differ from person to person. Students may be provided services at CCSD, may be referred to other campus offices or clinics, or may be referred to off-campus providers.

CCSD provides individual counseling within a brief, short-term therapeutic model (up to 12 sessions within an academic year), with most students benefiting from 4-5 sessions. Short-term counseling can be beneficial to students experiencing challenges in the following areas:
Students seeking or requiring specialized treatment options not provided by CCSD clinicians, or those who are determined to need more intensive frequency and length of treatment than can be offered through CCSD, may be referred off-campus to community providers who may be better suited to meet their therapeutic needs.
If you are experiencing distress and are unsure if counseling or other CCSD services are right for you, we encourage you to seek an initial assessment with a counselor to help you determine what options are available. If preferred, you may also call our office to consult with a counselor by phone. If it is determined that CCSD is not the most appropriate option, our counselors and/or case managers will assist you in finding appropriate support for your situation.
CCSD is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services.
