Academic Mentoring at the Pirate Academic Success Center
The Academic Mentoring goals are to provide academic support to incoming freshmen, retain program participants and provide professional and leader development to Academic Mentors.
The Academic Mentors are the newest members of the PASC Crew. They are upperclassmen who have served in various organizations such as the military, ECU ambassadors, Greek Life, and tutored at the PASC. Our Academic Mentors assist freshmen with study skills, connecting them to academic resources and creating effective study habits.
Peer Academic Mentoring Program
The Peer Academic Mentoring program at the Pirate Academic Success Center is designed to provide academic support and enhance the transition to college for freshmen at East Carolina University. Participants are paired with a Peer Academic Mentor who will meet with them several times over an academic semester. During the bi-weekly mentor sessions, Peer Academic Mentors assist mentees in strengthen their academic study skills, develop effective studying habits and foster the connection to academic resources.

College Reading and Learning Association’s International Mentor Training Program (IMTPC)
All Academic Mentors are required to participate in the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Mentor Training Program (IMTPC). Academic Mentors meet during the academic year to cover CRLA Peer Mentoring training topics. Training workshops equip Academic Mentors with the knowledge and skills to assist incoming freshmen.
