Getting Started
All new graduate students (except Medical & Dental) are automatically loaded into the Graduate School's online orientation course within the Blackboard course management software. Students should activate their Pirate ID & passphrase (received via email a few days after the acceptance email arrives) and then log into There, new graduate students will see Graduate School Orientation for New Students - Semester of Start.  The words 'semester of start' will be replaced by FALL, SUMMER, or SPRING, depending upon the semester of first enrollment.  Students will click on that course and will be able to see if their program has required assignments, information on plagiarism, how Degree Works is used, and much more! Students will be enrolled in this orientation module for a least 1 full semester, so it can be used as a resource during the first steps of graduate school. Questions can be email to

On May 11, 2017 (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Eastern), the Graduate School hosted a LIVE event with representatives from the Office of the Registrar, Cashier, Financial Aid, and Disability Support Services.  Each office had time for a short presentation and then students could use a "chat" function to send in questions which were read out loud and answered!  The event was recorded and can be viewed by any current student, faculty or staff. Click on the link below and log in with your Pirate ID and passphrase.  Questions about this event (not questions for the presenters) can be emailed to

Webcast Log In  (Entire recording is accessed through this link).

*We are very sorry for the background noise in the presentation/recording. There was unexpected construction occurring that was beyond our control. If you have questions, please use the links and email addresses in the SLIDES above and contact the office that can best help you.

*We are aware that some new students had trouble logging into the system. This should be corrected now. We will leave the recording up for at least Summer & Fall semesters for you to use as a reference. If you continue to have log in issues, please call 252-328-9830 for assistance.
