ECULA is an intensive, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. It gives students the language skills they need to succeed in modern academic and professional environments. Students are in class 20-25 hours per week.
Also, ECULA is a skills-based program. This means there are separate courses for the four main language skills: reading, grammar and writing, listening, and oral communication.
ECULA classes are in three levels:
The core classes meet five days a week, either on Monday-Wednesday-Friday or on Tuesday-Thursday. Additional required courses meet one day per week. Average weekly time in class is the following:
- Listening Comprehension: 6 hours per week, including films
- Oral Communication: 7 hours per week, including Pronunciation Laboratory
- Reading and Vocabulary: 4 hours per week
- Grammar and Writing: 6 hours per week
ECULA classes follow an established schedule, shown below.
