The Summer 2018 applications are now open. Applications will be accepted until programs fill. Click here to apply.
We will offer two 25-day programs that will allow students from any major to earn fine arts foundation credits, science credits, and the required KINE 1000 fitness and health class, as yoga.
The program cost is a wonderful value and includes a lot of travel as well as time to explore and relax in the authentic medieval village of Certaldo Alto where students live in beautiful apartments and study in our ECU classrooms. We will visit the beaches and villages on the beautiful Amalfi coast for 3 days including a day exploring the ruins of Pompeii, climbing Mount Vesuvius, a bus ride along the dramatic cliffs, a visit to Positano, and a boat ride to the village of Amalfi. We will also spend 3 days exploring Venice with its unforgettable romantic ambiance and interesting history, gondolas, canals, cathedrals, and delicious restaurants. While in Certaldo we will take day trips to Pisa, San Gimignano, Volterra, and Siena with overnight trips to the dramatic Cinque Terre coast and the magical city of Florence. Don't miss it! This is an opportunity of a lifetime!
Cost for one summer semester is $4,500.
- Tuition for up to 7 credits

- Dinners on all class days (nearly every day)
- Breakfast and dinners on overnight trips

Students budget for their own lunches and breakfasts in Certaldo. Our apartments have full kitchens available for cooking and grocery shopping can be done at the stores in Certaldo Basso. Apartments are completely furnished and also have washers. Grocery costs seem to be less expensive in Italy than in the US. Students will pay for their own lunches on trips. An estimate of out-of-pocket costs would be $300 (depending on purchases of souvenirs).
Airfare is not included in the program cost. Flights will be recommended by the program director and should not be booked until she has sent these suggestions. It is important that we arrive and depart at similar times. Airfare is usually $1,200-$1,400 or possibly less. If students fly with the group or arrive and depart close to the group flight times, ground transportation to and from the airports will be provided at no additional cost.
Fill out the complete application and submit it online at the ECU Pirates Abroad website
. You will receive e-mail notification once your application is reviewed by program staff. If you would like to inquire about the status of your application at any time, please contact Whitney Morris at email@example.com
After you receive an acceptance e-mail, a non-refundable $75 application fee and a $200 housing deposit should be mailed or hand-delivered to the Office of Continuing Studies (address below). Your place in the program will not be confirmed until these funds are received. Payment should be sent as soon as you are sure you plan to attend, even before the deadline for applications.
