Faculty Guidelines for Summer Study Abroad

Summer Study Abroad programs at East Carolina University are offered each summer and are led by ECU faculty teaching ECU courses abroad. The programs generally run anywhere from two weeks to a month.

The programs take quite a bit of preparation and require approval from your academic unit, college or school (for the academic portion), the Office of Continuing Studies and the Office of Global Affairs (for the financial portion). Faculty interested in leading a Summer Study Abroad program should begin planning early in the Fall semester. The deadline for submitting a proposal is November 1.

Please check your college’s internal deadlines to ensure deans and department chairs have sufficient time to review proposals.  The deadline for proposals to be to the Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences is October 1st.

If you are interested in planning a study abroad program, please consult your department head and review the SSAb Faculty Guidelines. Then fill out the SSAb Program Proposal form. Return all completed forms to the Summer Study Abroad Office at 303 Self Help Center, 301 Evans St., East Carolina University.
