We have noticed that students are more likely to visit the University Writing Center when they can put a face with the space. We are happy to visit with your class for either an Introduction or Workshop with the UWC!
Please Note: Faculty or a substitute must be present when the UWC offers a workshop or introductory visit.
Please allow at least ONE week from the date of your request for planning purposes. Additional preparation time may be required at busy periods in the semester, particularly within the first few weeks of the semester.
either a UWC Introduction or UWC Workshop, we can come to you or you can come
to us. We are very excited to have a physical space where you can bring your
students (for classes of no more than 25 students). We’ve had entire classes in
our Digital Studio as well as just walking through the space and moving over to
a Library Instruction classroom. We’ve had many faculty add on a University
Writing Center visit with their Library Instruction day to let students know of
all the options available to them when writing.
We also encourage you to share our website with your students, and in particular, our Student Resources page. If you teach a a DE course, you direct students to the Online Writing Lab (OWL) and let them know that the writing center can help them virtually.
UWC Workshops are 30-45 minute sessions about a writing topic you think would benefit your students. Past workshops have covered topics such as Writing As a Process, APA Style, MLA Style, Literature Reviews & Synthesis, Academic Integrity, etc. During a workshop, one of our staff members will facilitate a presentation and /or activity with your class or group.
