Congratulations on your new position, and welcome to East Carolina University! To ensure a smooth transition into working at ECU, you should take the following required action steps. For your convenience, a New Employee Checklist is provided to help you as you as you begin your employment with the University.
The required forms and paperwork described below will be provided and covered in your New Employee Orientation. If you have any questions, check with your supervisor, or contact the Department of Human Resources at (252) 328-9847.
COMPLETE HIRING REQUIREMENTS
Requirements to complete your hire include:
Attend the New Employee Orientation (In Person Session). The date of this session will be provided to you when you have accepted the job offer. At New Employee Orientation, you will complete the following forms and review the following policies:
Proof of ability to work in the United States(I-9 Verification). Department of Homeland Security I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form will be provided for you to complete. Please make sure you bring appropriate documentation to verify your employment eligibility. Please review the I-9 form above for a list of acceptable documentation.
Declaration of your W4 and NC4 tax withholdings. The W4 and the NC4 forms will be provided for you to complete.
Enrollment in direct deposit will ensure your bi-monthly pay is delivered directly to your personal bank account. You will be provided an Authorization Agreement for Direct Deposits form to complete. Please bring a voided check to attach to your direct deposit form.
Policy Forms The following forms are required documents that will be provided at New Employee Orientation. These must be completed and/or signed:
Please bring a government issued picture ID (drivers license) and social security card.
We must attach copies of these to your personnel profile.

ENROLL IN BENEFITS PLANS
At your New Employee Orientation Session, you will have the opportunity to meet with a Benefits Consultant to review and sign up for benefits programs that you are eligible for. Please review the Benefits section to review the variety of Benefits plans available to you as an ECU employee.
GET YOUR ECU 1 CARD
Your ECU 1 Card serves as your official ECU employment identification card, and will give you access to libraries, university facilities, and possibly your building (depending on the security system). The ECU 1 Card is worn as an ID badge at the ECU Brody School of Medicine. While the ECU 1 Card is required for identification purposes, other accounts linked to the card are optional.
If you will be working on East Campus, you must obtain your card at the Main 1 Card Office located at G-521 Old Cafeteria Complex, 252-328-2673. If you will be working on West Campus (Health Sciences Campus), you must obtain your card at the Health Sciences 1 Card Office located at GE-101 Brody Medical Sciences Building, 252-744-2261.
In order to obtain your ECU 1 Card, you must provide a valid state-issued identification card, letter of employment verification, and you ECU ID (Banner) number. For more detailed information, please go to the ECU 1 Card website.
YOUR ECU EMAIL ACCOUNT
For information on how to get started with your ECU email account, go to the ECU ITCS Faculty & Staff email site. Here you will learn how employee accounts are created, how to get started, and how to access your account from work, home, or on a mobile device.
PLAN YOUR COMMUTE
Parking and Transportation staff can assist you in determining the best way to get to work. All ECU employees are required to park by permit in any ECU parking lot. Parking and Transportation also provides other alternative transportation options, which can be viewed on the Parking and Transportation Services website.
Free temporary parking permits are available to new employees, and are provided at New Employee Orientation.
If you will be driving by car to your new job on either East Campus or West (Health Sciences) Campus, use the Parking Map to identify parking locations near your building. Please note, you must park in the appropriate parking zone depending on your parking permit.
